Thank you Casa Fig!

Ten months ago I sat next to Heather Byer, the owner of Casa Figueroa, at a Pleasant Ridge Business Association meeting. I was feeling keenly the enormity of the task I had set for myself - to completely rebuild an old building into a space of welcome for conversation and entrepreneurship. After just a few minutes of conversation she asked “How can I help?” Just like that. “How can I help?” I asked if she would host a fundraiser, and also give me advice about the creation of a welcoming space. She did both. On November 6th Casa Figueroa welcomed community members and friends for a wonderful evening, and they donated 20% of those profits to Community Happens Here. Every staff member was warm, welcoming and accommodating. The food was fabulous. The vibe was great. I got to welcome many friends from all the parts of my life. Angela Young was, as always, the organizer behind the scenes. We are so grateful to Edible Ohio Valley for promoting the event. More than the money, which we are grateful for, the whole evening represented encouragement, community commitment, and proof that this idea has a future. Thank you to everyone who came and ate or contributed from afar, and have been encouraging from the beginning. Thank you all.
