The work begins!

The most thrilling news is that we (finally) have our permit to commence the interior renovation. This means the really basic, unseen things can be put into place – footers to support larger beams, plumbing, a new furnace and all new electric. We are starting to see some real progress. It’s like life, most of the hardest, most fundamental and important work goes into the infrastructure – the unseen and often unacknowledged parts of our work and life and communities that make the rest happen gracefully. It’s a lesson for me, impatient as I am to begin offering hospitality in a lovely, airy, welcoming space, we must all first slog through the building of that space, both metaphorically and in reality.

We are so happy to announce that we received a $500 grant from the Pleasant Ridge Garden Club to support exterior plantings. This energetic group of nature and community lovers adds so much to our community through maintenance of the plantings at the corner of Ridge and Montgomery, watering many of the flowerpots in the business district, and participating regularly in trash pick-ups. Thank you for your belief in the importance of the work of Community Happen Here.

Please join us for delicious food at Casa Figueroa on November 6th, 4:30 – 9:00 p.m.. Tell your waiter you are there to support Community Happens Here, and 20% of sales will benefit us! I was so touched when I first spoke to owner Heather Byer about Community Happens Here and she immediately responded “How can I help?”. Invite your friends, neighbors and family to enjoy a great atmosphere and wonderful food, and support CHH at the same time.
