Good Work
There is a wonderful thing that happens when someone learns a new skill. It is a joy to participate in it. Our Teen Baristas got to experience both learning and teaching last weekend during our Open House. It was the first time for them to learn new skills such as the correct way to grind beans for the coffee, steam milk and set up the coffee maker. The best moment is when the adult steps back and suddenly the “student” becomes the one with the skill, and then turns around to train the next person. It is an inherently Montessori precept that skill acquisition is one of the most motivating experiences a person can have. Our whole team is in a big learning curve as we push towards a true Full Open of Community Happens Here as “The Commons,” with community events, coworking, a cafe, and lots of Sidewalk Hospitality and Entrepreneurship Education for youth and adults. We’ve had our first networking event, hosted small neighborhood groups such as the Pleasant Ridge Business Association, and are eagerly anticipating our second interview in our Creative Independence Series, with filmmaker Xander Wynn. Let’s do this!
