Meet our Fall Journalism Intern

Hi everyone! My name is Josh and I am a sophomore at the University of Cincinnati majoring in Journalism. This fall I am doing a CO-OP with Community Happens Here. So for the next 12 weeks I am going to be writing a blog every week for Community Happens Here.Throughout these blogs I will go back in time to see all the events that have taken place this summer, interview the founder of CHH, talk with families that have benefited because of the community, discover the purpose behind Saturday Sidewalk Hospitality, and much more. The goal of these blogs is that I and anyone along this journey with me will be able to answer the question, What happens when there is community? What better way to come to a conclusion about this question than a deep dive into an organization that was created for the sole purpose of community.

Community looks very different for everyone and can change through different stages in your life. My community has changed quite a lot since I’ve gotten older. As a kid my community was the soccer team I played on. In highschool it was mostly just my two best friends. It wasn’t until my first summer in college that I got to experience and clearly see the impact community has when it functions the way it’s designed to be. I’d gone on a Summer Leadership Project with 20 other college students from campuses across Ohio. During our time in Petoskey we spent every minute of our day together. Through this I saw what happens when you're constantly in a loving community that builds one another up. And this is the result I saw - We all have natural strengths that others don’t, and when we come together with each of our individual strengths, that’s when we function the best and work the way we were made to, together.

But the best part is, you don’t have to go to Petoskey, Michigan to find Community. Community can be found right in your backyard. And for anyone living in Pleasant Ridge, community can be found at 6238 Montgomery Road. This is why I am excited to be writing these blogs for Community Happens Here this fall, because I believe that CHH has successfully created a space for the community to run the way it’s designed to be. Throughout the next 12 weeks we will get to hear from the folks who have testimonies that show how CHH has been that community for them and the results of it. In next week's blog we will do a recap of all the events that have taken place this summer.
